Easter is a great time to invite family and friends over for some good food and good conversation. But in the pinch of our country’s economic crunch, many of us have found ourselves with a smaller budget to work with even when it comes to entertaining our guests. Well, here’s a simple solution to celebrating Easter without breaking the bank when creating a simple center piece.
Even in tough economic times, we can still set a pretty table and stay on budget by using what we already have on hand. Jazzing up old table wares and vases with inexpensive, fresh flowers can go a long way. And believe me, your guests will really appreciate the fact that you “splurged a few extra dollars on flowers” to create a beautiful center piece for your Easter celebration.
A CREATIVE MIX
Here’s what you’ll need to get started: • 3 bottles in similar shapes and heights • Flowers: Try a combination of 8 lily’s, 3 spider mums and 2 orchid blossoms. Otherwise select your favorite blooms, however, be sure to mix and match flowers for a fun, festive look. • Sticks: From your yard if you’re really on a budget of pick up some bamboo, pussy willow or other long stems from your craft store. • Raffia, floral wire or string • Scissors or knife
Here’s what you’ll do to complete the arrangement: • Separate lily’s, mum, etc and trim off end of the stems using photo as a guide for height of each flower group. Cut sticks to approximately 2 to 3 feet or gauge to you’re the size of your table • Group like flowers together and place in bottles filled with water. Place onto table • Space bottles approximately 4 to 6 inches apart then secure sticks to bottle necks using raffia, etc • Be creative with the orchid and place one of the blossoms on the table as shown. | | |
