We all live for our weekend get-a-ways and indulgent resort stays; living in the lap of luxury is no doubt appealing. But why not incorporate some of the elements that make these vacations so fabulous right into the design of your own home? LUX UP YOUR SPACE: My recent stay at the Hotel Gansevoort, the first of its kind located in Manhattan’s lively Meatpacking District, inspired me to share with you several tips that will give your own space a similar polished and stylish look. Each guest room within the hotel emphasizes minimalist elegance, utilizing a neutral color scheme embellished with hints of blackberry. The extravagant goose-down bedding and 400 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets are layered blocks of solid complementary colors. The key to warming up such an ultra-modern look is adding touches of charm, such as the live orchids that adorn the each room. Traditional dial clocks rather than standard digital alarm clocks can give the bedroom a homey, classic feel while large bay windows will brighten any space not to mention providing a cozy seating area with a beautiful landscape view. These kinds of creative ideas can be easily incorporated into your own space and can be as simple as adding fresh flowers to any room. What I loved about my room during my stay was the attention to simple details like a living plant in my room and an oversized framed mirror that leaned against the wall. SHED NEW LIGHT ON YOUR SPACE:
In lieu of conventional doors, the rooms of Hotel Gansevoort feature dramatic sheets of backlit translucent glass. Lighting tricks like this play a principal role in the presentation of any interior space: ceiling lights that rotate, window shades the can be easily positioned up or down with the flick of a switch, flexible bedside lamps and lamp fixtures affixed to a leaning floor to ceiling framed mirror. All are rich examples of how a few lighting adjustments in your own home can drastically transform the atmosphere. Even a cylinder shaped lampshade fixture hung from the ceiling can create mood and function with a contemporary look. Bathroom Luxury
Another element that contributes to the luxurious semblance of boutique hotel suites is its impeccable attention to specifics. Consider re-doing a bathroom that is detail-oriented down to a precisely controllable shower temperature, a scoopy, tin sink and convenient towel bars attached to the cabinetry. Both you and your own house guests will really appreciates such generous accommodations and it’s with small particulars like these that are what truly create luxury in any interior design presentation, whether inside a five-star resort or your very own space.
