End of Summer Decorating

Fall Decorating

As the warm summer months start to recede into the cool breezes of autumn, many people fall into a state of malaise. The sun sets a little earlier, the cold bites a little deeper, the beach is but a distant memory and blizzard snows are just around the corner. That’s why it’s important to create an environment which combats this melancholy spirit. Rather than looking at the end of summer as a time of mourning, you should embrace the upcoming season, reveling in its beauty and indulging its inherent excitement.

The first thing to keep in mind about autumn is that it’s the season of colors.

This is the time of year when the natural world morphs into a multi faceted array of hues. This fact can be used to brighten up your home, replacing the pale and pastel colors of your summer styling with rich and vibrant earth tones, stunning reds, brilliant ambers, and deep browns.

There are a variety of ways you can spread these colors throughout your environment. Appropriately colored rugs, curtains, and even couch coverings can be used to simulate the changing hues of autumn’s leaves. Throws, pillows, and other smaller accessories can compliment this effect. Pictures and portraits of fall outdoor scenes can help to complete the look.

Another way to invite the beauty of the changing seasons into your home is to actually use bits and pieces from the natural world. A small decorative bowl can be filled with pine cones, or acorns. Pumpkins and gourds can help to inspire the holiday spirit of the season. Even leaves, branches, and bits of twigs can be woven together to create inspiring centerpieces for the table, or mantel décor to display in your common room.

One important thing to remember about the transition from fall into winter is the environmental effects. It’s going to get colder, and in order to combat this, you should try to make your home feel warmer. Fill it with soft textures, warm blankets and throws, fluffy pillows, thick carpeting, and even soft curtains to make the room feel like it is wrapping a warm embrace around its occupants.

Just because the summer is over doesn’t mean that you have to retreat into a state of hibernation. The fall is a season of color and change which can be embraced to combat the malaise that often comes with the cooling of the season.
