Optimizing Space on Remodeling Projects

We usually think that remodeling your home is easy, relaxing, and comes with great satisfaction of doing it yourself. That is probably what you see on home remodeling reality tv shows, where all we see is the before and after, and a bunch of people doing the rest of the work, while a family takes a break. However, the reality of home remodeling is nothing quite like that, without a plan and an experienced contractor, your project can turn into a nightmare. In this article, we will specifically focus on tips on how to minimize the probabilities of a disaster on your living space by optimizing space.

When you decide that its time to remodel, we are actually changing our daily habits and routines, soon we find ourselves travelling through a maze of furniture and other objects around home. Of course, the lack of space is very uncomfortable, especially if more than two people live in the house. At the same time, there might be a bunch of strangers moving around your house, even if they take the best precautions to take care of your precious objects, you never know what can happen. We have heard awful stories of how furniture, art, sculptures, and all sorts of valuable decorating pieces get ruined by not being on a safe place.

So what solutions can we find that are affordable? We can’t obviously wrap our whole house in foam to protect it, nor move all our objects around the house so we can’t live peacefully. The best option today for most remodeling projects is renting a self storage unit temporarily. Self storage units are single private spaces that provide us with the extra space we do not have back at home. Depending on the scope of your project, you can get different sized units all around the country basically. The best self storage companies provide safety and regulated temperatures on each unit so your prized possessions are well taken care of. Make sure these units have good humidity control too; some materials are quite sensitive to humid areas, like wooden furniture, or some art paintings. Also, it is always preferable to wrap or cover your belongings with a protective film, sometimes plain foam can work, to avoid any dust to accumulate during your remodeling project.

Self storage units can also work when you are re-decorating your home, sometimes we do not want to get rid of our old furniture or other objects, but we don’t want to keep them home either because they simply just not go with the theme of our newly designed living space. Finally, there are some occasions when we move to a smaller apartment or house, and we can’t fit all our stuff in one place, then a self storage unit is the answer.

It’s always better to prefer nationwide companies that offer these services, basically because they guarantee better quality and options closer to your home. Uncle Bob’s Self Storage owns more than 400 facilities around 25 U.S. States, they are one of the largest self storage companies around the country. They even offer a store locator for customers to find a facility nearby, usually within a 5 mile radius.
